Micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS) is the technology of very small devices. MEMS or Micro system technology (MST) is made up of components with micrometer tolerances while nanotechnology is made up of components with nanometer tolerances. With critical dimensions in the micron or nanometer range classical physics and classical chemistry are not always applicable since the physical and chemical laws scale differently when miniaturizing.
